Comic Strips

What are my favorite comic strips? I don't read the (paper) newspaper anymore, but I still have some classics I love. Nothing holds a candle to the incomparable Calvin & Hobbes, but here are some folks still doing good work:

Ted Rall

Ted Rall
Ted Rall is an amazing political satirist that accomplished what the mainstream media could not and would not with his travelogue, To Afghanistan and Back. Some of his humor is flawed and too obvious (for example, I found 2024 to be pretty boring and poorly written) and his illustrative style is blocky and garish at best, but he's no slouch in the courage department. And though his cartoons based on his imagination and extrapolations may leave a littel to be desired, he excels at journalism. Check out the excellent To Afghanistan and Back on Amazon.

These strips are hilarious! This guy sprung out of nowhere, taking photocopied clip art and using it as powerful iconography to appeal to the universal fears and concerns of Americans after September 11. Luckily, they're now collected in a book. Try Get Your War On from Amazon.

The GeekOut: For Geeks by Geeks

"Little Things" by Brandon Hanvey
This strip is strangely endearing, even though it's not actually very funny.
